Antique rugs are by definition, rugs older than 25 years, although you would not be able to tell easily what is an antique, and what isn't, judging by the quality of reproductions of museum models these days. These antique reproductions are not "antique" in that sense, but can be used for everyday use, without worrying about wear and tear issues.
A rug can really highlight your home, and many rugs from the past have held up for many years, withstanding time and constant trodding. Here we will cover in brief some antique rug styles. Let’s get going...
* Antique Persian rugs have incredibly tight and precise patterns, which make them suitable for use as area rugs or to accentuate a section of the floor. This is a common characteristic of this rug, and it comes in color schemes suitable for vintage and contemporary style decor.
* Another type of Persian rug called Bakshaish is popular with collectors, and has a rich pigment and unforced character to it. These rugs are more suitable as centerpieces themselves, for any room. Their contrasting designs are both refreshing and inviting at the same time.
* If you want a floral design, consider an antique Sarouk Persian rug. This rug is both strong and durable, yet plush enough to be soft.
Don't forget there are other kinds of antique rugs besides Persian rugs or Oriental rugs. Here's some other exotic rugs with strange names:
* If you like dragons then you might like to consider a Kar Rug * If you are looking for overall beauty with a wonderful design then look for an Anatolian rug * Ladik rugs have tulips in the center and on the borders for tulip lovers * The Turkmen rug has a flat woven weave and is hand knotted
The Southwest Americas are the home of the Navajo rugs. Navajo rugs make wonderful wall hangings as well as floor coverings. Chinese and Tibetan rugs are another group of rugs from the Far East, that have rich embroidery, and comprise a vast group, indeed.
Many of these old rugs have spiritual meanings embedded in their design and motifs, besides having superb workmanship, and rich histories. Having them around the house can imbue a spiritual ambiance towards the overall indoor decor setup.
While these rugs might be antique, they are also usable at the same time. That's right, go ahead and use them as a normal carpet for your floor. You can use a carpet pad spread over the top, to keep your antique rug in good shape. What is the point of having a beautiful antique rug when you can't show it off, and use it at the same time?
